Passive Resistance: Clara Luper's Method
Passive resistance is a nonviolent approach to defy authority. The most significant figure in the history of passive resistance is Mahatma Gandhi. He conducted peaceful marches with thousands of participants as an act of civil disobedience.
Martin Luther King, Jr. was a civil rights activist inspired by Gandhi. He led non-violent marches and rallies. His most significant gathering in Washington D.C on August 28, 1963, had 300,000 participants.
In that crowd was NAACP Youth Counselor, Clara Luper, with students she brought from Oklahoma City to hear Martin Luther King, Jr. speak.
Martin Luther King, Jr. inspired Clara Luper to use civil disobedience to change American history.
